A question for the forum members that do networking. What is the difference between channel rated and component rated devices beside the cost which i know is significant.

Channel rating takes into account all the components from end to end to meet a given standard, the argument being that the sum of the individually rated components does not necessarily mean a compliant system.

I should add that if you are "mixing and matching" you should be using component rated items.
