I have a customer who has installed an air compressor in his shop and wants me to hook it up. The compressor has a 10HP motor 3 phase 32 amp. His building is only single phase (there's a funny story there). I told him he probably couldn't use the compressor but would check out a phase convertor for him anyway. I have never dealt with a phase converter before. Looks like a hard starting piece of equipment like an air compressor would require a rotary phase converter, (not a static phase converter) and one that would handle his unit would put out ~55amps and require 100 amp single phase supply, at a cost of about $1800.00. Am I on the right page here? And is there anything else I need to know about installing one of these.
I doubt he will go for it (and have his best buddy who sold it to him, and was going to hook it up for him, come back and get it) at that price.

Thanks in advance Steve
