Rewire issue

Hi, I’m planning to rewire my house cause the wire looks very bad, i have only a few outlets at bedrooms and living room, they don’t meet with the current codes (you know an outlet within 12' and things like that), i was wondering if Building and Safety would ask me to meet this code when i do the rewire and provide AFCI protection also. I would like to keep the same quantity of outlets and use regular breakers; Arc Fault Breakers are very sensitive. Txs

I don't know about your area but around here you would not need to bring it up to code but any rewiring in areas that are specified in 210.12 will need afci protection

California follows the 2008 NEC. So once you start the rewire you need to bring the conditions up to 2008 standard.
