Can someone help with the interpretation of article 330.17 in the 2008 edition of the code it refers you back to article 300.4 (a,b,c), but there is no mention of type MC cable, does this mean that it is excluded?

No it means that mc cables must be protected as art. 300.4 (A,C,D) state. That art. does not need to mention mc cable as 330.17 tells us to refer to 300.4

This needs to be better clarified, why would they put in bold letters nonmettalic sheathed cable and ENT and not mention type MC or AC, I have been in the business for a while and have never done or seen the use of grommets for running MC cable through metal studs, I recently had an inspector call me out on it and just trying to get other opinions on the matter, Ive had other inspectors interpret it the other way

Thanks

You do not need grommets thru metal studs. Notice that art.330.17 omits 300.4(B) as that is only for non metallic cable and ent
