Does the code allow for a straight blade ceiling mounted receptacle to be facing downward. I have heard that the receptacle needs to be twist-lock to avoid the cord from falling out caused by vibrations.
I have looked in the NEC but haven't found it anywhere.

There is no requirement for twist locks, we install many straight blade receptacles facing down for both projectors and signs in windows.

You may want to make sure you buy a good quality device, not a $0.50 cent bargain bin one but there is no requirement for that either.

Thanks for the info, (2) associates have told me the AHJ on their respected projects stated it was in the NEC. I just wanted to know for myself

buy a 'hospital grade' receptacle and you will have no problems with the better receptacle, as Bob has stated

The AHJ was requiring the change to twist-lock because he said a straight blade receptacle wasn't acceptable. it didn't seem matter what brand or type of straight blade it was.
