Lay-in Light Fixture Installation

What is the least amount of space above the lay-in ceiling required to install a 2x4 Lay-in troffer? In my case, I have only 8".

My supply house stocks 4 lamp T-8's that are just a fuzz over 4.5" in depth.

Depends on the depth of the troffer you want to use.

Many "standard" troffers are in the 3-4 inch range for depth, special lens or parabolics usually need more depth though.

I always tell people that I need 6 inches above the "T" grid to be able to get a troffer in the grid. Always seems to be enough.

we just installed 12 parabolic 2x4's with 6" of clearance, youre fine. lithonia was the brand. depth states 6" they were actually 5 1/2". You may have to dettage and reattage one side of the grid though if you cant angle the fixture in

Thanks for the replies. I am probably going to use the shallowest acrylic lens troffer I can get. Probably just und
er 4" deep.
