Electrical hot work is defined as: Working on or near exposed conducting parts that are or might become energized at 50V or more.

Its not so much the voltage as the potential size of the arc flash.

Many times a 208V system can be more dangerous from an arc flash perspective than 480V.

there are two different electrical hazards at play here - arc flash and electrocution.

electrocution is only a hazard above 50 V per 70E.

you have to have suitable PPE for all the hazards you are exposed to.

Good point. For some reason, I thought the question was directed at arc flash, but looking back, it doesn't say anything about arc flash.
