Hello Friends, would anyone care to volunteer to give an example of the (9in*2) of surface area calculation?
Would this part of the pool article apply for conventional construction? Rebar, wire, and gunite?

A pool ladder with 1" OD stainless rails has a circumference of pi" (rounded 3.14) so just under 3" of rail would provide 9in? (actually 1.4 something because the ladder is likely to have two rails, and that's not considering metal steps).

Only necessary if inner pool surface is [considered] nonconductive, such as vinyl liners or fiberglass composite shells.

That only applies when you have a non-conductive pool shell or liner and you have no bonded metal parts (or bonded parts with less than 9 square inches of surface ares) in contact with the pool water. It is just a simple calculation of the area of the metal that is in contact with the water. There are metallic sections of piping that can be installed in the pool filter water piping system to meet this rule.

**Would it not also be necessary if there were no under water lights installed?** LED lighting would require a water bond.

Yes 680.26(C) always applies even if everything is non conductive. There are devices as stated earlier that can be installed in the pool circulation system that will qualify for the water bonding
