Additional ground rod for seprate panel over 20 AMPs

I know of NO addition of the NEC that ever had such a "blanket" requirement fro sub-panels.
A sub-panel in a separate building does require a grounding electrode system per 250.32 which is a current requirement.

In previous edition of the NEC a sub panel with a circuit more then 20 AMPs was required to have its own ground rod. Does this still apply.

I'm not sure if this ever was true regarding the NEC. As Augie stated a panelboard in a separate structure will require connection to a GES. That could be other electrodes besides two ground rods.
