Silver cloth coated with a waxy feel to it is probably from the late 50s to mid 60s - depends on the thickness of it (thinner is later). Non waxy and thicker could be from the early to mid 1950s. If you really meant collared instead of colored, you may be dealing with lead sheath UF circa 1950s, but I don't think I ever saw it with a ground wire.

What year did they require a ground wire with Romex? My house was built in 1959, and it was wired with 2-wire Romex, no ground of any size. I've since replaced it all, of course.

IIRC,

1956 the laundry circuit required an EGC.

1962 all 120V circuits required an EGC.

1971 full sized EGC for all general purpose 15A, 20A, 30A circuits.

Yes, this is sloppily written. It is early Saturday morning and I is tired...:)
