I think your decision was right because if you have enough clients to work with, then there is no need to take headache with someone else, but if you want to work for any of the clients like this, then you must verify the information from all the available source to make sure that you are going into mess.

sounds like a liability issue to me. You would be taking responsibility for work done by someone else. Especially when there was no inspection required on the rough-in. Thanks but no thanks.
