GFCI Labeling

I have someone insisting that a receptacle that is GFCI protected VIA an upstream device has to be marked as GFCI protected. I say no. Am I having a senior moment?

Maybe via the instructions and 110.3(B)?

Not required directly by the NEC but as Bob stated it cold possibly be part of the listing included in the instructions. I've never seen such a requirement.

Good point. I'll have to look at some typical instructions included with GFCI breakers and receptacles.

Nothing in Article 210 would require this for a standard down stream receptacle.

Are they thinking of 406.4(D)(2)(c)?

(c) A non?grounding-type receptacle(s) shall be permitted
to be replaced with a grounding-type receptacle(s)
where supplied through a ground-fault circuit interrupter.
Grounding-type receptacles supplied through the ground-fault
circuit interrupter shall be marked ?GFCI Protected?
and ?No Equipment Ground.? An equipment grounding
conductor shall not be connected between the grounding-type
receptacles.

Most have the little stickers included in the box that say "GFCI Protected".
