As noted, not in the NEC, but be careful as folks here have reported that there are local rules that do not allow 15 amp receptacle circuits.

Some local rules may say otherwise. Not too long ago the NYC electrical code didn't allow 20 amp general purpose receptacle circuits.

infinity Is that a typo error NYC didn't allow 20 amp general purpose receptacle circuits. What would be the objection ?

No typo, 20 amp circuits were reserved for 277 volt lighting, SABC's and individual branch circuits. Also minimum conductor size is/was #12 AWG. Can't explain why it was done that way. :)

As every one has said, no it is not in the NEC. And unless there are local amendments or the spec's call for no less than a 20 amp circuit then it is another famous electrical myth.
