Unshielded T/C Wire

I generally always use T/C wire that is shielded and has a drain wire. I have some higher temp insulated T/C and it does not have the shielding or the drain wire. Is it common practice to use unshielded T/C?

Yes. Very common.

I don't know why but IME the use of shielded T/C extension cable is not all that common.
