These power optimizers will shut down the DC output from the solar panel when the grid is down. This will be an option to comply with the 2014 690.12 fireman's rule...

Anyone used them yet?

Yes I have them on my house. They will not shut all the power off.

What they do is allow 1 volt per panel to pass through along with a minute amount amperage. If you have 10 panels in series you would have a reading of 10 volts dc. I have 24- 235 watt panels and my open string voltage is about 24.5 volts. These readings would be for open string readings only or if there is a power lose you would only get about 1 volt per panel. This is a lot safer system then conventional wiring where you could have a potential of up to 600 volts DC.

its nice to troubleshot with this system as each optimizer has its own serial number that you record when you install . You map the system out and can see the performance of every panel during the day. During the day the optimizer communicates with the inverter to allow more power to flow.
