I use mine mostly for testing fluorescent lamps. With the 'antenna' I can check them right through the grid if that's what's in the troffer.

For other HID lamps (HPS, MV, MH, etc.), if the fixture is out, my SOP is to replace everything if the customer doesn't have a scheduled maintenance plan.

Look, you asked for opinions on a particular tool. I have that tool. I have been doing electrical work for more than 30 years and think I have a clue. :D

I will stick with my first assessment of the tool. A total waste of time.
