I am doing a kitchen remodel and the old range circuit is #8
SE aluminum on a 40 amp breaker.

The new range is a whopping 13.55 kw.
Can I reuse the existing circuit as it can remain

A single range of 13.55kW would have a demand of 8.8kW (36.7A @ 240V) per T220.55

Thanks for the quick reply. What column do I rate the wire. It's was installed in the late 70's.

I would guess the #8 AL was installed per the 75 deg col.

I don't have a '70's NEC, but before 2011 the 60deg col had a 30 ampacity, and in 2011 that changed to a 35 ampacity for the 60deg col. Neither of which would be acceptable in a 40A c/b.

I would change to #8 copper. 3 wire w/gnd.

Read the installation manual. Often they require #6 Copper.

No 8 AL in the '78 @ 60?C is 30 amps.
