how long does the electrical inspector have to issue a citation. the electrician has only 20 days for appeal. there has to be a limit on how long the inspector has to issue the citation. what is the code article referring to this

The NEC does not address that, those issues are determined locally but ideally it is close to what cowboy has said.

Most places will at least give notification (or you may need to request it) that the permit/inspection has passed, is cleared, certificate of occupancy, etc. if there is no violations to report. That information is usually sent withing a couple days at the most, sometimes is given while the inspector is on site, otherwise if not done on site is often either at end of work day or beginning of next work day when they finalize some of their work done that day.

Approval is generally simple, but if there is violations they may need (should need IMO)some time to look up code sections to cite in order to back up their findings.

I know here they do have standardized form or report and the inspector must fill in what code section or other AHJ rule has been violated along with description of what part of the installation it applies to.
