So I know this is more an architectural question but maybe someone will know the correct answer? I referred to a gyp ceiling as a hung ceiling( which is it as it has plenum and is hung in my mind) and my co-worker said only acoustical(2x2 tile) ceiling are called hung ceilings. Gypsum board ceiling are not called hung ceilings?

Is he right?:?:happyno:

I have never seen "Hung ceiling" used on any drawing for any ceiling type.

If the ceiling surface material is not supported directly by building structural members, but rather by lower-elevation for-ceiling-only members, then you have a hung ... er-r-r-r.... suspended ceiling.

Exactly and there are many variations of 'hung / suspended' ceiling systems / designs.

For me, as an installer my biggest question is about accessibility not construction details.
