Where in the Code book can I find the min and max mounting height of a meter socket??? :confused:
I've always been told between 4' and 6' where did this come from????

That information will not be found in the NEC. It is under the control of the utility. Check with them. In this area they want the meter at 5'6" to center.

As Charlie E would add, the heigth of the cash register, er meter, is up to the serving utility. A meter is not required by the NEC. It is required if you want power from a utility.

In midwestern Indiana, the local Utility (Cinergy) gives the height at 5'-6" from finished grade to the center of the meter, if it is a meterbase (socket)mounted on the side of your home. If it is a pedestal socket and the utility provides the pedestal, it is around 3'-6" to 4'-6" (depending upon the size and installation depth of the pedestal socket). If you choose to build your own pedestal, then the require the 5'-6" height to the center of the meter is adhered to.
