troffers, whips, or mc....(no chains)

I have always wired a troffer with a whip from a nearby box. Tis the way I was taught. Every so often I have to do service in a ceiling where all of the troffers are 'daisy chained' together with mc or gf.

Is there a code reference that applies to the daisy chain method...that is, is it approved? (It's sure a pain to work with)

The State inspectors I work with don't like it, but I don't know if they turn it down when they find it.

The fixture has to rated for it to be daisy chained. That's what I was told by are local AHJ. I am checking with my supply house to see if there is such a listing since I just bid a job with 200 troffer fixtures. You can not daisy chain with fixture whips it must be #12 MC for 20 amp circuits and #14 MC for 15 amp circuits.
