If they are not rated 240 there is no way I would connect them to 240.

They would run much hotter and could be potential source of fire or injury.

As long as all the conductors are rated at least as high as the over current protection nothing in 240.21 applies.

The EE has to read the definition of tap conductors in 240.2

I doubt there are amendments as often as inspectors just go ahead and enforce what they feel is correct.

The NESC (the typical code of the utility) also has clearance requirements.

If so that makes no diffrence unless one of the condutors on tha cable...

The lug itself may actually be rated 90 C, but the equipment (breakers, fused disconnects, etc) it is connected to will not be.




It would be difficult to make a breaker that could handle a 90...
