Don't blame them. I'm the only one who mentioned similar.

And I'm not hanging my hat on that.

It has no stove, or cook top. When I read the definition in the 08 it sounds like it needs 1. A sink, and 2. A permanent provision for preparing food. I suppose an argument could be made for a mounted micro but it doesn't have that either. Am I missing something? Stove + Sink= Kitchen as far as I can tell.

I agree its not a kitchen but just what is required if the bar sits in middle of the room.Does it count as wall space ? Mine is 8 feet by 32 inches with a base 12 inches by 6 feet.Nothing could be put there but does it require any receptacles. Its in my entertainment room not kitchen.

Yeah that's kinda where I took it to MF...
A stove is not a permanent installation either.
If it were to have a microwave then I would say yes it is a food preperation area.
Now because we already have 2 kitchen circuits in the house then we could make do with just one 20A circuit.

If you had 2 kitchens I feel that you would need 4 SABC's. Not just one extra 20. In my opinion the area in question could be fed by a single 20 amp circuit

To clarify if it is considered a kitchen then 2 more sabc's would be required. I do NOT consider it a kitchen, but it may fall under "similair areas". In which case 2 more would be needed IMO. I think the kitchen definition could use some clarification. And I also think that similar areas is somewhat a toss up as far as the inspector and the mood that day.

Actually wet bars are stricter than kitchens for the GFCI protection. It's required within 6' of the sink, it does not have to serve the counter top.

I would not consider a bar to be a kitchen, so it would not require the SABC's.

Why would you have to install 2 more SABC's if you already have installed at least 2?

The code only requires 2 SABC's. They can serve the kitchen AND all other similar areas. It does not require a seperate SABC (or 2 SABC's) for EACH area.

1200 SqFt house 2 SABC's
12,000 SqFt house 2 SABC's
