Default Taps, Tapping, and Tap rules

Does anybody know where I can get some good info (explanation of) taps and tap rules. What is considered tapping and what the rules are. I have never been real clear on this subject.

Also, I am looking for a good explanation of shunts and shunt trips, how they work etc.

Hope I'm not asking for too much here.

The commentary in the NEC Handbook has some interesting info on taps (240)
You might try "search" here for shunts and shunt trips...
(they are two completely different animals)

this thread discusses shunts vs shunt trip:

That was a great thread on shunts, shunt trip breakers and the difference between them. I will be perusing the Handbook. I only have a digital copy of the handbook, and while the search feature is great, I wish I had a hard copy.

Here is a great PDF on Transformer Overcurrent Protection and also explains some of the tap configurations.
