Would there be an issue if I used a NEMA L19-20 plug in a similar way as NEMA L16-20?

Hey there,

My facility has some new 480V equipment that needs to be hooked up to replace some failing older units. The older units have cord drops which currently have NEMA L16-20 ends on them. Management wants me to install the new machines, but does not want the operators to plug them into the existing drops, or use the older machines with the new hookups. They would prefer if I could find different style plug ends. After doing some research, the only option I could come up with would be to get some NEMA L19-20 ends and use the W terminal for the ground. Would this be a legal alternative, or do I lose the UL rating on the plug by doing this and have a code violation?
Thanks!
