I've looked in Art 215. A question put to me was "Is there anywhere in the code that dictates the ID of phases for feeds & sub-feeds?" The only place I can remember putting colored tape on phase conductors was from the spec's on a job. Comments requested. Best, Lyle:)

215.12(C), 210.5(C), 517.160(A) (5).

215 and 210 require identification of the conductors by system and phase (08)

BUT they do not require color coding !!!!

517,160 ,110.15, and 230.56 do

120/208v and 277/480v should be required to be color coded, the code should not be silent on this.

Make a code proposal.:)

I have identified motor circuit conductors with T1,T2, and T3 before with wire markers and used all black wires. The conductors were identifed at all boxes and terminations.
