After a long run of increased size conductor[increased to avoid voltage drop] is it nessecary to cotinue the incresed size to the device being wired or can the conductor size be decreased to the size that would normally be required for the last twenty five ft.?The conductors would be spliced in a j-box at or around 25 ft. before the device. It is a 30 amp 240 v single phase receptacle. The branch circuit feeders will be no. 6 thhn copper spliced to no. 10 thhn copper. Thanks GT.

You can reduce the conductors back down after you have accomodated the VD, take note of 250.122(B) in the portion of the run with the increased conductor size.

As above, but as the desire is to limit voltage drop it might not be the best design choice to have as much as 25 feet of the #10.
Remember that the 25 feet of #10 will have about the same resistance and voltage drop as another 65 feet of the #6.
