When using a 120/240 volt surge arrester with one white lead and two black ones, I was told it was ok to use it one an 120 volt circuit as long as I spliced the white to white and the two black ones to the black circuit conductor...does this sound accurate?

Thanks in advance...again !

It's a small block one I believe model SDSA1175. I just intercepted the circuit before the shutoff switch by the door of the Boiler Room ahead of the Tekmar Controls with an deep 4 by 4 box, and spliced it in there.

SG-1 is right. Use the diagram for the two wire service. You're just parallelling the protection elements giving you twice as much surge current capacity.
