Who said there was any arcing?
And can I buy an AFCI for a Bulldog panel?
They let the smoke out. It used to be said that it took smoke to generate the electricity and it was very important to keep the smoke from coming out the other end..... I wonder what the problem could be?

I don't see any problem at all.
If it were on an arc fault breaker that never would have happened...

Is this the first time you have seen this failure of a GFCI recpt or just the first time you took pictures?
I've seen many, especially where some rain water seeps in. Is it just me and my old computer that can't see the images in the OP ? I had to copy the image address and paste it into a new browser window.Just never seen one cooked this bad.
if you look at the device, you can clearly see there was a warning
that was not heeded.
well, you can clearly see the warning, just not what it was. that
part has degraded over time.
It's you. SorryI've seen many, especially where some rain water seeps in. Is it just me and my old computer that can't see the images in the OP ? I had to copy the image address and paste it into a new browser window.
