OK guys, I hope ou can help. I have a run of 8" x 8" steel wireway which is horizontal and then turns down wih a 90deg elbow to run vertical for 6 feet and then turns 90 deg to be in the horizontal plane again. The customers inspector has said we need to clamp the cables in the vertical section "to take the weight off the cables coing around the elbow"( there are aout 900 14 awg thhn conductors).

Has anyone heard of having to do this before? I suppose it comes down to do the cables have to be supported in the vertical section of the wireway?

Any help would be appreciated

Supporting Cables in Wireway?

300.19 require conductors to be supported instated in vertical raceways if the vertical rise exceeds the values in table 300.19(A), which begins at 100 feet. 300.19(C) covers support methods acceptable to the Code.

Welcome !

It may not satisfy your inspector but in the past I have had similar concerns (although not 900 cables) and used 3M's Mystic pads to provide a smooth, insulated, padded surface where the wires turned on the elbows.

Curious: What do the 14s control ?
