Wow. Brain burp and scratching my head here

Kitchen counter top receptacle placement.

The 2' and 4 '

Receptacle placement. Where does it start?

Let's say there's a 8' counter running on a wall end of counter just drops off

You come in 2' on each side and place s receptacle and there will be 4' between them

2 receptacles total.

Here's my confusion.

Put a wall on one side the depth of the counter so there's and L 8' x 2 '

Does the measurement now start from the front of the counter top with the wall so there would be 3 receptacles required for the same 8' counter ??

I think so. But it looks like over kill.

Thank you

I say no. There is often a wall on one or both edges of a counter top. The counter top is still only measured end to end.

That small wall does not create a "L" shaped counter top.

Ok. I can see that. For grins a normal counter is a 2' depth. If it was 2' 1"
Or 3 ' is it then considered more counter space ???

I will put the 2 in but still scratching my head a bit :- )

I am not sure I understand your question. The depth of a counter space could be anywhere from 18" to 36" IME, 24"-30" is most common IIRC.

Ok. The question I guess would be how deep of a counter before it would need to be considered as more countertop space and needing to be included in that first 2' measurement ?

Any depth over 30" ?

Just wondering.

Nothing in the NEC addresses that. Maybe a max depth in IRC, but that still would not require that wall space or wide counter space as extra measurement.

Until it becomes an L and its normal width makes a turn and goes down the cornered wall, it's still just the same counter to us. Perhaps some kitchen building code somewhere would agree that eventually it's not very useful, being too wide to reach anything against the wall.
