I've never seen a Y-Splice inside a panel! Was this ever ok to do NEC wise (looks to be about 1980's)

If it was NEC compliant I might replace the meter with a GE PowerMark Gold, and generator interlock kit since that is what the customer is after, they can keep this ugliness if they want IMO.

Huge split bolt is exposed by poor tape job —rising near panel cover—.
That is poor workmanship, if not dangerous, relative to insulated Polaris lugs.

My bet is that these are service entrance conductors.
Although I cant see the bonding jumper from the Neutral bar to the tub, I can see the spider sitting on what looks to be like the GEC,,, maybe not.

The Splices don't look half as bad as the buss bars around that 2p 20,,,,,

Just how far can you extend service conductors inside a residence like this anyway?

I thought it was supposed to be "at or near" the nearest point of entry.

With these being scabbed onto,,,,, how many entry's can that be ?

oh well.

Maybe there's a main outside and it's just not 4 wire like it should be.
If that is the case there's more corrections to be made to bring it up to date.

Though probably not the case here one could have parallel supply conductors for voltage drop reasons, and need to reduce because the lug can't take multiple conductors?
