using the 05 NEC, when calculating a feeder for a warehouse, would you automaticaly use table 220.42 demand factors for the lights and receptacles together, or do out the receptacles and lights with the other tables, and compare the two, and take the larger?

Table 220.42 is for lighting only regarding a warehouse. General purpose receptacles are only included in the general illumination load for dwelling units.

However 220.44 say Table 220.42 or 220.44 is permitted for receptacles if they are calculated in accordance with 220.14(H) and (I). For warehouses, Table 220.44 will yield the lower demand load. If you want to go larger, there is nothing preventing you, but the lower load value is the minimum to comply with Code.

Note: Though 220.44 says you can use Table 220.42, it does not say you can combine lighting and receptacle loads to achieve a lower overall demand load.
