Arc fault or gfci on 2 wire recep

I have a old house that has 2 wires to receps and no grounds. Someone put 3 prong receps in and I told the owner of the rental it was not correct, he wants me to correct the problem.

My question is--I know I can put a gfci recep at the first recep, but the boxes are way to small, plus the circuit splits out of a light fixture to other rooms and receps. So I what to put gfci breakers in, but I don't know if I am required to use arc fault for the bedrooms. The bedroom circuits also feed livingroom and some kitchen receps on the far wall and the lights. Only 5 20 amp circuits in this house, very small.

Is it O.K. to use gfci breakers or should I use arc fault?

Thanks for any help.

I would install a gfci breaker and I would not worry about afci. If you are not adding to the circuit then you are not req. to add afci. Some jurisdictions are trying to enforce it but the nec does not req. it.

AFCIs - watch out!!
