Essentially each unit is its own system as the emergency supply power comes from within each unit. Not the same thing as a central supply and running circuits out from there to where illumination is needed.

It is exactly the same as any emergency supply and the same rules apply on the load side of the supply. If you do a remote lamp off of the unit equipment which not unusual it is an emergency circuit

I agree, if you have self contained unit it is a system of its own, if you have remote lamps they are part of that system, but are not related to the separate self contained system in the next room.
