Hi everyone;

Is there any standard of what type of cable to be used at Underground Mining Operation. We have 480V feeder line system at Underground and we only used PVC Jacketed, XLPE insulated cable, 600V and some dude said that we should use armored cable for underground installation. But, there is no article in the NEC standards that we should use armored cable, in fact its not permitted to install Type AC at underground.

May we here your thoughts regarding this matter.

Hope for your positive response.

Thanks

In my opinion, NEC Art.502.10 Wiring method (A) it could be a reference for a coal mine confined area. See the recommendations for class II div. I group F if it is about coal mine.

If it is an underground coal mine in the US, it would fall under MSHA part 75 (30 CFR Part 75). The NEC doesn't apply, although part 75 is based on the 1968 version of the NEC. An underground metal/nonmetal (copper, gold, limestone, gypsum, etc) mine would fall under MSHA part 48.

Where is the mine located? What is being mined?

I agree, of course. See:

I think it could be Subpart I or J suitable for your cable.
