Water pipe

Hello - I'm getting ready to do a heavy up and I noticed that the water pipe coming into the house is galvanized pipe to the shut off and then changes to copper pipe. I read 250.52 (A)(5)(a) and I read it as I can still use that as my grounding electrode? This is the first time I have seen any pipe other then copper. Thank you

You are required to use all electrodes available on site. The water pipe qualifies if there is ten feet in contact with the soil. However you are required to supplement it with another qualifying electrode, one ground rod if you can meet the 25 ohm requirement, if not then 2, min 6 ft apart.
If the water pipe does not have ten feet, then 1 or 2 ground rods, and you are required to bond the interior metal water piping system, 250.104
