I believe 'dwelling' implies where one sleeps Adam. ~RJ~
Its a common area. Meaning all residence of the building can use that area.Is it a dwelling unit? The requirements of 210.52 apply to dwelling units.
Nope! Not sure i said it wasSo it's not a kitchen in a dwelling unit.
Its an apartment building with commercial spaces. The area im speaking of Is a space that any resident can go to freely. It has a small kitchen. Is there a solid wall and doors between a non-dwelling-unit kitchen and the rest of the building that houses multiple dwelling units? Or is this just a big house with multiple sleeping quarters and there is a kitchen down the hall? Does each room have its own bathroom, or is that common, too?
Certainly I would say that the REASON for the 2-4 rule still exists.

So it's not a kitchen in a dwelling unit.
I've seen people sleep out in the woods, in alleys, on the beach, in church, and many other places. NEC does have a definition for dwelling unit and most those I mentioned seldom fit.I've seen people sleeping in the break room.
The common areas are not part of any "guest room or suite".I believe it does apply per 210.60(A).
No requirement for specific receptacle spacing, or even any receptacles at all, but if is a "kitchen", 210.8(B)(2) would apply to any receptacles that are installed.
