Getting Into Control Wiring

I was hoping someone could give me a few tips on getting into control wiring. I am a Master Electrician in Virginia. I work for a medium-size EC as an estimator and former/sometimes field lead. I got my AAS in Electrical Engineering Technology a couple of years ago, and the program included PLC programming and controls. I really enjoyed it and am pretty good at it. I would love to be able to do more of this work through my current employer, but I am unsure about how to get started. Cold call/site visits to local industrial plants? Any ideas are appreciated.

These articles/books written by Carol Fey start out very basic and simplistic, but are very common sense, which is sorely missing from a lot of apprenticship programs IMO, but may be of some help to you. She has written for Contractor Magazine for a long time.
