As far as industry can bus drop be used on a permanent install? I was told at one time it was up to the authority have jurisdiction at the plant you worked in. What kind of codes do we have for it, I can find very little about this.

No, I am asking about 480 3 phase hook up to say CNC machines. I have heard that it can only be used as temporary wiring. In most cases though they are talking about SO cord

accordance with 400.7 and 400.8 and the following

That is the kicker, it says in 400.7 (7) Connection of utilization equipment to facilitate frequent interchanges (8) for ready removal
Nowhere can I find you can wire this as a permanent

400.8 Says it can not be used as fixed wiring of a struture

So is it all talking about busdrop or is busdrop its own entity

...and yes it is supplied from a bus bar with a disconnect

368.56 allows it, it is common and no special permission is required.

I guess you did not see the exception under 400.7(B) or notice 400.7(A)(1)
