Are you talking a passenger elevator like found in commercial or institutuional buildings?

Around my parts a sump in an elevator pit is common, but we are usually talking grain elevators - usually a class 2 hazardous location because of the grain dust.

It's located in a grocery store, to bring product up from the cellar.
