I need to install some 15 amp recept cable drops. Can I use a listed pendant box
without a wire mesh connector? Sect 400.10 informational note states I can knot
the cable to prevent pull.

If the inspector accepts it I guess it should be okay. The only time I have seen that done is with pendant fixtures. I would use the strain relief connector but what you say should be compliant. I would run it by the ahj first.

Maybe a knot off of a ceiling structure before the ceiling box will take the strain off of that portion. A knot right before the pendant box is not going to help you. IMO, you still need a strain relief on the pendant box.

Are you referring to an "underwriter's knot" inside the box? Sometimes, layers of tape or a judiciously placed cable tie will prevent pull-out.

On occasion, I'll see an overhand knot right before a pendant box to raise its hight. Cheaper than calling an electrician.

I saw about 100 cord drops to 4" sq boxes with duplex receptacles that were just hanging and not mounted in every aisle in a brand new BJ's this weekend in Hudson.

They used white cord and kelums grips.

Bob, is this your work?
