- Location

- ESI, PI, RBO
In the current IAEI mag an article talks about the AHJ. (No link online yet). PP29
First it takes about approval.
110.2 Approval. The conductors and equipment required or
permitted by this Code shall be acceptable only if approved.
Then it states "...... But, still, as a general rule in the United States, it is the AHJ (typically the local electrical inspector) that carries out this responsibility......"
So I read:
90.4 Enforcement.
......The authority having jurisdiction for
enforcement of the Code has the responsibility for making
interpretations of the rules, for deciding on the approval of
equipment and materials, and for granting the special permission
contemplated in a number of the rules........
Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ). An organization,
office, or individual responsible for enforcing the requirements
of a code or standard, or for approving equipment,
materials, an installation, or a procedure.
I have always, and I am probably wrong, assumed that this was the CBO (Chief Building Official).
Thoughts?
