Want to have some fun?

Hand the instructions for wiring a switch to one of your employees and see what they say. LOL

See if they wire per the diagram or actually read the instructions. :slaphead:

The instructions clearly say that the "BLACK (Hot)" conductor may be attached to either the top or bottom screw, even if the diagram shows otherwise.
The only typical trip up, I see, might be the insulation strip length.

If you run across a "switch leg" where one conductor of your cable is white do you go back to the store for a different switch ?:)

Just that the text requires that you have two black wires, while the illustration requires that the wire connected to the load be black while the other, source wire could be any color.
Neither of those situations are necessary for a code compliant installation.
In addition to re-identified white wires in a switch leg, the ungrounded conductors in question could be red or blue or any other non-reserved color.

And, yes Augie, if you could not change the wire colors you would have to go back an buy a different switch to comply with 110.3(B).

I believe the instructions are for the layman. See the second warning. It also says to be installed according to electrical codes. That would be enough for me to to apply the exceptions and different colors from NEC.
