What to do with an unused conductor in a MC cable

I'm having a hard time getting 10/2 cable and my vendor has 10/3 in stock. Am I allowed to cut off the unused conductor before I install the connector? I'm tight on the box volume and can't terminate the unused conductor in the box.

Cap it with tape or a small wirenut. Someone might thank you in the future for that extra conductor.

Agreed 100%. I once had a coworker who would cut every unused conductor off at the cable sheath. Arrrggghh His explanation always was "We don't want to confuse the next guy" If that extra wire confuses you: You should not be working in this field.

I usually leave it long enough to be used in the future and if I can without confusion I write on the back of the jbox cover unused "color" from j box # xxxx

Since box volume may be an issue I would just cut it off or find another supplier for the correct 10/2 cable.
