The analogy of changing the Motor Vehicle Code to deal with a defect instead of recalling the affected cars.
That does not seem to happen....

I see the motor vehicle safety design requirements more of an analogy to listing requirements instead of to an installation code.

It's not about the paperwork, it's about GE getting a code change because their dishwashers suck instead of recalling them.

It's a way to blame the installer for their appliance failures.

'Oh, no GFCI installed? Sue your electrician to recover the costs of the fire our appliance started.'
