Watch out for mechanical forces between conductors during motor starting if you use separate wires, regardless of connector type. Current could be up to the full surge of the generator. :)

I have never seen them move and I have done a lot of temp gensets with single conductor.

It might get exciting during a line to line short but will a single generator really have a high short circuit current?

That is my experience as well.

If the subtransient reactance (x") of the alternator was 10%, then you would get 10 x FLA out during a bolted fault.
