Hi,

I tapped onto feeder conductors being supplied by a 200A OCPD. I used #3 wire and took them to a 100amp fused disconnect. Is this within code or do I need #3/0 even if I go to the 100A fused disconnect? Will there ever be the possibility of more than 100 amps on those conductors? maybe only in a fault condition, right?

Thanks for your help!

You should be good on conductor size (more to compliance than just conductor size).

Don't forget if using a wire-type EGC, it must be sized per 250.122 for the 200A OCPD rating, but not required to be larger than the tap conductors.

I don't see where you mentioned the length of the tap.
The tap would need comply with the rules of 240.21, commonly 25 ft.
