We are currently wiring a wood frame multi unit apartment building. I was asked by the AHJ for the supporting and securing intervals for the service cables. I thought I remembered reading that they are to be supported and secured every 6 ft. I have read article 338 and I don't see anywhere in the section where it addresses this topic. Can anyone help me out this.

It doesn't sound as if they are part of the service but if they were this article would apply.

230.51 Mounting Supports. Service-entrance cables or
individual open service-entrance conductors shall be supported
as specified in 230.51(A), (B), or (C).
(A) Service-Entrance Cables. Service-entrance cables
shall be supported by straps or other approved means
within 300 mm (12 in.) of every service head, gooseneck,
or connection to a raceway or enclosure and at intervals not
exceeding 750 mm (30 in.).

As Rick has pointed out the requirements for the same type cable may be different depending on their usage.

I think Rick's code reference is the correct one for the OP. I was assuming feeders for some reason.

I would not jump just yet....the question was asked in a way that possibly they are "feeders" to the individual multi-family units so your reference may also apply. In the reference to service cables does not mean the installation was not maybe SER to individual multi-family units.

So both may be correct...depending on use.
