Does 230.82 allow more than 6 disconnects to be installed on a service as long as however many over 6 are feeding the loads listed in 230.82? would this additional disconnect not be a service disconnect? I have been seeing solar installations installed with an additional disconnect and was told 230.82 allows this. It seems like it would be a bad idea, if the utility and fireman are only looking for 6. Any thoughts on this?

I agree that is what it seems to say, but its hard to except that a 1200A disconnect tapped from the line side of the service disconnects isn't considered a service disconnect.

The inverters used in most applications now are utility interactive , which means they shut down all DC output from the panels at the the optimizer with the loss of utility power. With this type of system there is no danger to fireman once the building power has been disconnected. I do not think the solar main counts as a service main.
